From newspaper advertising to billboards it was a smooth transition to digital advertising. Advertisers have caught up with the digital boom and began taking advantage of several social media networks. The advertisers know where their audiences are. In fact, social media networks have caught the imagination of the people and everyday one can find thousands of people stuck on social media, chatting, watching, posting, connecting, and sharing their thoughts, feelings and emotions with each other. Amidst the hullaballoo of all these, advertisers knew if they pitch in and connect to these Social Networking addicts, they have found their niche markets. So what exactly are these social networking sites and how effectively they come in handy for the advertisers is what this article examines?

Facebook

Facebook, when it hit the world of internet, it instantly caught the imagination of the people across the world. Immediately the subscribers grew phenomenally worldwide. Today Facebook is the #1 social networking site on the internet. Thanks to Mark Zuckerberg for his wonderful innovation that hit the world in 2004. And it is said that the subscribers this Facebook has runs in billions. To get to the billion audiences at one place, what more could the advertisers ask for?

Twitter

Twitter is an online social networking service that enables users to send and read short 140-character messages called “tweets”. Competing with Facebook, Twitter has also changed dramatically, but it has its limitations. It’s a micro-blogging site with a limited text of 140 characters only. This is just the handicap that these twitter handlers are facing. People who wanted to share their views and feelings are asked to limit themselves to a 140-character. But for mobile users it is indeed a boon. Twitter has been founded by Evan Williams, Noah Glass, Jack Dorsey and Biz Stone in 2006.

YouTube

YouTube is a video-sharing website, and it has been the most powerful tool for advertisers. Because, the videos instantly connect to the audiences rather than the big 1000-word texts.  YouTube too has billions of subscribers who are sharing their news, thoughts and feelings through videos and connecting with each other. After Facebook and Twitter, YouTube has been the most popular social media tool for the advertisers. YouTube was founded by three former paypal employees Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, Jawed Karim in February of 2005. And it was taken over by Google in November of 2006.

Likewise there are number of social media networks namely Google+, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Instagram and Whatsapp, Tumblr and so on. It is these social networking sites which are considered as mine of wealth for the advertisers to pitch in with their ad campaigns and connect with billions of social media subscribers. Saroj Ads in Chennai does not lag behind in capturing their consumers surfing online on these popular social networking sites.
